The Chair designed by Pierre Jeanneret circa 1950 was relaunched in 2019 and is now manufactured by Cassina in Italy. It is a well-known chair found in Chandigarh's Capitol Complex and can be seen in the offices of the Secretariat. The chair is made up of solid wood independent pieces that include an inverted "V" supporting the armrests. Additionally, it has a woven backrest and seat stretched across a wooden frame, making it a common feature in the area. Similarly to the office chair, this armless chair also uses the "V" approach to sidebars, but shortened since they do not extend to the arms. The focus, instead, is on the seating and backrest sequence in Viennese woven cane, which creates a geometric section supported by two wooden profiles and coplanar legs, making the chair simple and yet powerful. The Chair is a tribute to Pierre Jeanneret, who played a significant role in the realisation of Chandigarh and whose work in India lasted until 1967. He combined essential forms with simple materials to create a meeting point between modern European ideals and the traditional Indian spirit, which is evident in Chandigarh. The Chandigarh project is considered Le Corbusier's most mature work, summarising his poetics, technique, and ideology, consistent with his will to research and contribute to the culture of architecture and design. The Chair is made of wood, with a backrest and seat in Indian cane. It comes with an optional upholstered cushion. The dimensions of the Chair are D 58 cm, W 51 cm, H 81 cm, and a seat height of 43 cm. Please note that some of the images show other colours and variations of the model, and the product that is selling is the one shown in the first image. Also, the actual colour of the chair may vary slightly due to factors such as different monitors and phone screens. Pierre Jeanneret was a visionary of modernist architecture and design, known for imbuing the strict geometry of modernism with energetic diagonals and lighter materials like cane and wood. He collaborated with Charlotte Perriand on experiments in aluminum and wood and developed prefabricated housing with Jean Prouvé. Jeanneret joined his cousin in Chandigarh in the early 1950s, where they embarked on a massive urban planning project, designing low-cost buildings and furniture. Jeanneret remained for 15 years as the project's chief architect, which has become a masterpiece of modern vision. Cassina, the manufacturer, created the I Maestri collection that revisits furnishing designs by the twentieth century's best-known architects such as Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, Charlotte Perriand, and more. The company uses evolved technology to manufacture these designs, preserving the models' functional concepts. Cassina is also known for manufacturing iconic pieces of contemporary design, ideated by some of the most important international designers. Today Cassina continues to look to the future of design, affirming its exclusive ability to furnish a home's living and dining spaces completely and iconically through its products.
