Bin 28 was named after the Barossa Valley Kalimna vineyard purchased by Penfolds in 1945 and from which the wine was originally sourced. Today, Bin 28 is a multi-region, multi-vineyard blend, and from 2019 onwards, the wine is not labelled 'Kalimna'. Critic tasting note: "Penfolds's oldest “bin” wine feels like a throwback to a bygone era of South Aussie Shiraz. A winter warmer for those who like their wine snuggled under an oak blanket, this multi-regional blend, aged in American oak, is currently cloaked in vanilla and butterscotch oak, under which lie red- and black-berry and baking-spice notes. The palate is gripped by savory tannins and rather heavy, ripe fruit. This needs protein to be drunk now but can age until 2028 or longer. Christina Pickard" - 89/100, Wine Enthusiast
