It is with great pleasure that we present this exquisite, one-of-a-kind Brutalist cupboard with chest of drawers base designed by Paul Evans for Lane Furniture. This top pick is part of a suite which includes a pair of nightstands, a tallboy chest of drawers, and a linen cupboard with chest of drawers base in one style, as well as an older-style linen cupboard with drawer base. Please note that this sale is for the listed item only and all other pieces are available under our other items. Paul Evans, an American furniture designer and sculptor, was renowned for his unique tables and cabinets. Born in Newtown, PA, in 1920, he studied at the Philadelphia Textile Institute, Rochester Institute of Technology, and Cranbrook Academy of Art. After completing his education, he moved to New Hope, PA, where he shared a wood shop and showroom with his mentor, Phillip Loyd Powell. In 1964, he became a designer for Directional Furniture and launched several furniture lines, including his famous "Cityscapes" series. Throughout his career, Evans incorporated a variety of techniques, including those used in the shipbuilding industry, into his large-scale works. In 1981, he opened his own showroom in New York, but sadly passed away on Nantucket Island, MA, in 1987. This piece epitomizes Brutalist style with its seriously stylish and cool design. It's perfect for a bedroom or living area, and the drawers are always handy. We've carefully cleaned, hand-waxed, and polished it from top to bottom. The piece is made of softwood with a lovely oak veneer finish. The very base has plenty of patina due to its weight, but the rest of the piece is in excellent condition. Measuring 168cm in height, 101.5cm in width, and 46cm in depth, this item is available for collection from our Pulborough warehouses. Please examine the very detailed pictures as they're an integral part of the description of this item's condition. Please also note that vintage and original items, such as leather seating, will always have a natural patina with creasing and wear. We recommend annual waxing to ensure no moisture is lost. Additionally, hand-dyed leather should not be placed in direct sunlight for extended periods as it will dry out and fade. In short, this piece captures the essence of Brutalism in a decidedly delightful manner.
