Paul Evans was an eminent member of the American Studio Craft Movement and played an influential role in shaping the art scene in Philadelphia during the late 1960s. His education from various institutions and collaborations with other artists eventually led him to New Hope, Pennsylvania, where he established a showroom with Phillip Lloyd Powell. Evans' passion for metal craftsmanship and sculpture manifested into his creative partnership with Powell, and together they produced expressive pieces with breathtaking surface effects. In 1964, Evans's work caught the attention of the Directional Furniture company, which opened new doors for him to showcase his talent and reach a broader audience. However, his line became too expensive, and he severed ties with the company by the end of the seventies.
