The 'Patchwork Table' by Paul R. Evans, a renowned American artist born in Bucks County, PA, was designed for Directional in the 1960s-1970s. Crafted from welded and patinated steel with a 1/2" thick smoked glass top that is square with rounded corners, this table features a brutalist design and measures 15 1/2" high by 36" square overall. The base is 15" high by 20 1/4" wide by 20 1/4" deep. Although no apparent signature can be found, Evans' significant contributions to the mid-century American studio furniture movement are well-documented in a comprehensive survey of his work entitled 'Paul Evans: Crossing Boundaries and Crafting Modernism.' The exhibit showcased some sixty works spanning his entire career, including examples of his early metalwork and jewelry and collaborative pieces made by Evans and Phillip Lloyd Powell when they shared a studio in the 1950s.
