We are pleased to present an exquisite original set of nightstand bedside cupboards designed by Paul Evans for Lane Furniture, featuring a distinctive Brutalist style that complements a larger suite of furniture. Evans was a renowned sculptor and furniture designer from the United States, famous for his unconventional designs and exceptional craftsmanship. He received his education from esteemed institutions such as the Philadelphia Textile Institute, Rochester Institute of Technology, and Cranbrook Academy of Art. Evans began his career by collaborating with his mentor, Phillip Loyd Powell, in New Hope, Pennsylvania, where he established his own exhibition after working with Directional Furniture, introducing several series of furniture lines, including his renowned Cityscapes collection. Evans' works incorporated various techniques influenced by the shipbuilding industry. Sadly, Evans passed away in 1987 on Nantucket Island, Massachusetts. This pair of nightstand cabinets exemplifies the Brutalist design aesthetic with its stylish and captivating appearance, suitable for both bedroom and living room settings. The cupboards, constructed from softwood with a striking oak veneer finish, exhibit delightful patina due to their weighty bases; one cabinet top shows patina on the edges, but otherwise, the pair is in excellent condition. We thoroughly cleaned, waxed, and polished the cupboards by hand. The dimensions of the cupboards are height 61cm, width 69cm, and depth 43.5cm, with measurements taken from the widest point. Please refer to the detailed images to assess the condition of the cabinets thoroughly. As with all original and vintage items, natural patina, creasing, and wear will occur over time, particularly in leather seating. Annual waxing is recommended to maintain optimal moisture levels, while preserving hand-dyed leather from extended exposure to direct sunlight will prevent drying and fading.
