This is a beautifully crafted post-modern side table lift-top chest on legs that showcases exceptional Italian design and execution. Everything from its entirely handmade construction to its rich, luxurious and whimsical presence exudes high quality and sophisticated elegance. It is a true work of art, on par with anything hanging in the Guggenheim museum. Although it is unsigned, this table is most likely an original piece made in the artist's studio. Its exotic finishes include a mix of contrasting elements, colors, and textures such as gilt gold leaf foil, silver leaf, hand-painted metallic and faux organic shell lacquer designs, and black and white stripes. The four industrial ornamental raw steel legs are nicely sculpted and reminiscent of Andre Dubreuil. The lid opens smoothly, revealing a spacious open finished interior that offers plenty of storage. This table is both beautiful and versatile, making it suitable for a variety of uses, including as a side table, end table, coffee table, collectible accent piece, lamp stand, bedside nightstand, or even a blanket chest at the end of the bed. Ettore Sottsass was a renowned architect and designer, and one of the most influential figures of the last century. He founded the Memphis group in 1981, which revolutionized the creative and commercial logics of design. Memphis was a symbol of New Design, and its influence can still be seen in various sectors of production. This table is a testament to Sottsass' innovative designs and creative spirit.
