The modular set "Le Bambole" by Mario Bellini for B&B Italia, created in Italy in 1971, consists of five foam pieces covered in faux-fur. Bellini's aim was to find a new shape for upholstered furniture, resulting in all components taking the form of immense, pillowy cushions. Deconstructed, "Le Bambole" is made up of said cushions, which are challenging to depict in a product drawing but straightforward to perceive and scrutinize. The fabric is an essential part of the item, and the shape is made viable by the combination of the vertical edges' skeleton and the elastic membranes that blend with the fabric to achieve a perfect balance of action and reaction. The sofa is distinctive because it lacks a load-bearing structure, embodies an extremely natural shape, and offers users a sense of softness, elasticity, and comfort. Notably, Bellini received eight Compasso d'Oro awards and numerous other architecture accolades in his celebrated career that began in the 1960s with urban planning and led to productive product and furniture innovations. The set was meticulously restored and reupholstered in faux-fur by our atelier but bears minor signs of age and use. We also provide the option of reupholstering the sofa in a material of your preference, and our atelier is delighted to customize the item's composition and finishing to your liking.
