The Mies van der Rohe-designed Barcelona chairs, which are rare, were produced by Stiegler in the 1950s after being originally designed for the celebrated Barcelona pavilion in 1929. Stiegler was a small enterprise that crafted Knoll International frames from 1954 to 1976. The chairs shown here are part of the first generation of Stiegler's production, characterized by screws fastening overlapped corners and rounded skids. This edition, which followed the early iterations designed for the Barcelona pavilion and Tugendhat VIlla in Brunn, is particularly difficult to find. Only produced for four years until 1958, these chairs come with brown leather straps and untouched frames that show an impressive patina.
