According to a reliable source heavily involved in the Mies catalogue raisonne project, it has been confirmed that the Barcelona chairs being sold as a pair are in fact authentic. These chairs were manufactured by the German Company, Waldemar Stiegler, who produced the flat-steel furniture for Knoll International European market in the 1950s. They were originally owned by Heinz and Mirka Nösselt, who were part of the Bauhaus movement in Berlin. Although there is speculation that these chairs could possibly be earlier, the majority consensus has ruled in favor of the Stiegler attribution. The chairs have a lot of character and patina, featuring original leather with a nice amount of wear. While the foam has been replaced, the Tugendhat table included in the set is from the same collection and while the glass is possibly not original, it is older and shows its age. This rare and early set is a stunning piece that would be appropriate for museum display. The finish shows heavy patina which could be cleaned off, but we have decided to leave them in their original condition due to their rarity. The Armchair measures 29 x 31 x 31 in. (73.7 x 78.7 x 78.7 cm) and the Table measures 18 1/2 x 38 1/4 x 38 1/4 in. (47 x 97.2 x 97.2 cm).
