These Stendig arm chairs are a vintage pair of Mies van der Rohe MR 20 cantilever chairs that date back to circa 1970. Mies van der Rohe designed the MR chair in 1927, showcasing it as part of his contribution to the Weissenhof exhibit in Stuttgart, Germany. In 1977, the chair won the Museum of Modern Art Award, followed by the Design Center Stuttgart Award in 1978. These iconic Bauhaus cantilever chairs boast a clean design with simple lines and a lack of ornamentation, characterizing the International Style. The chair's cantilevered structure employs chrome-plated tubular steel, an innovative technology in its time, expertly paired with handwoven natural cane to achieve a perfect balance of contrasting materials and an intuitively accessible and ergonomic seat.
