This silver flower basket designed by Josef Hoffmann is an exceptional find from the Wiener Werkstatte's "Gitterwerk" collection. The perforated square with a looped reticulated handle is an iconic feature that distinguishes this model from others. The basket bears the logos of both Wiener Werkstatte and Josef Hoffman's artist cypher, as well as an 800 silver mark and an Austrian silver mark. It is a remarkable piece from the Vienna Secession movement, maintained in excellent condition. The VIctoria & Albert Museum in London has an identical silver model with the museum number M.15-1982, presently displayed in the 20th century Gallery, Room 74, case CA4, box 57 alongside other items from the 'Gitterwerk' series. The measurements are H 9 3/4, W 4, D 5 in, with a weight of 4.6 oz. t. Overall, this basket is a noteworthy discovery for any collector of rare silver items.
