These are a delightful pair of Art Nouveau Fledermaus side chairs, originally designed by Josef Hoffmann in circa 1910 for the renowned Austrian manufacturer, Jacob & Josef Kohn (J & J Kohn). Before merging with Mundus in 1914 and then Thonet in 1921, J & J Kohn produced a range of Josef Hoffmann's furniture designs. The chairs are crafted from bent beech wood with a striking black stain finish, and the upholstery has been updated with plush plum colored chenille at some point. One of the chairs is clearly marked J & J Kohn of Austria. Situated at a comfortable seat height of 19 inches, seat depth of 16 inches, and a seat width of 16 inches, these chairs are sold and priced as a pair.
