Joe Colombo's renowned lounge chairs, created for Kartell in the mid-century era, boast an interlocking design. The chair known as the 4801, was initially designed in 1963/1964 and is a modern and captivating piece crafted by a master of Italian Space Age design. While a few 4801 chairs were made using wood during the 1960s, it was difficult to use Kartell's preferred material to produce Joe Colombo's innovative design due to technological limitations at the time. It featured a curved pressed plywood seat, back and frame that intertwined sans metallic parts or glue, and came in trendy hues of white, green, orange and black. The chairs have managed to remain in excellent original condition despite minor signs of wear along the edges. Kindly refer to the accompanying images for a more detailed view.
