Born in 1930 in Milan, Joe Colombo had a diverse career spanning across painting, architecture, graphic design, and industrial management. After initially pursuing the arts and exhibiting alongside esteemed artists such as Fontana and Matta, Colombo joined the MAC (Movimento Arte Concreta) in 1959 and turned his focus towards design. In 1962, he established his design studio in Milan, where he completed various architectural projects and designed innovative products. Colombo's designs are known for their inventive and bold ideas, always pushing the boundaries and experimenting with new materials and technologies. His "Global Furnishing Unity" project from 1972 was exhibited at MoMA in New York as part of their design collection. As an example of his work, the Shu table lamp with its lacquered metal structure and green glass diffuser, designed by Colombo in 1976 for Forma e Funzione, is featured in the book "Repertorio 1950/1980. Immagini e contributi per una storia dell'arredo italiano" by G. Gramigna. The lamp is in good condition and is fully original, with the option to have it rewired for US standards upon request. Due to the fragile nature of the glass diffuser, a wooden crate is recommended for shipping.
