The S.C.A.L. double daybed, conceptualized by Jean Prouvé and produced by Ateliers Prouve in France around the 1950s, has been impeccably restored. The metal frame has been repainted and upholstered in new fabric, with the finished piece in excellent condition despite minor signs of aging. The accompanying tables have also been reworked in accordance with their original measurements. Jean Prouvé was a pioneering figure in industrial design, famous for introducing modern and machine-made aesthetics into furniture and architectural design using materials like steel and aluminum. Trained in metalsmithing, he began manufacturing his own furniture and collaborating with contemporaries like Le Corbusier and Charlotte Perriand. Prouvé saw himself as an engineer and constructor, orienting his focus on optimizing the efficiency of materials and production rather than form alone.
