The Akari 75D lamp was created by Isamu Noguchi in 1951 and was made by Ozeki & Co. in Japan. Its bamboo frame is covered with washi paper and has been rewired to meet U.S. standards. It comes with a new cord and canopy from the Noguchi Museum and has one socket, for which we recommend a maximum of one E27 25-75 W bulb. Despite minor wear consistent with age and use, it remains in good original condition. Isamu Noguchi led an illustrious career spanning six decades as a Japanese American artist and landscape architect. He was renowned for his sculpture and public works, as well as for his stage sets designs for Martha Graham productions, and his mass-produced lamps and furniture pieces - some of which are still being produced and sold today. In 1947, Noguchi collaborated with the Herman Miller company - alongside George Nelson, Paul LÁszló, and Charles Eames - to produce a catalog that is considered by many to be the most influential compilation of modern furniture ever made. This included the iconic Noguchi table, which is still manufactured today. Noguchi's legacy lives on globally, with his work displayed at the Noguchi Museum in New York City.
