Isamu Noguchi's "31N" Akari design, mounted on a single stem base (T3), features a shade crafted from washi paper and bamboo rims. Its structure is made of black lacquered metal, with a pyramidal base in cast iron and a stem in black lacquered metal. The form is expertly crafted by the Ozeki Company in Gifu, Japan, and the series was first introduced in 1951. This early model is easily identified by the iconic red logo featuring the Sun and the Moon.
