Harry Bertoia was an Italian artist and furniture designer who started his career in the 1930s at the Cranbrook Academy of Art. He played a key role in re-establishing the metal-working studio and also taught as the head of the department from 1939 to 1943, until it was closed due to wartime restrictions on materials. In 1952, Bertoia designed the Diamond chair, which was patented and manufactured by Knoll. This design has become one of the most iconic chair designs of the 20th century and has been continuously produced since its launch. Two such chairs are currently available, restored in a two-tone black and white finish. In addition to the full original Knoll cushions, reproduction cushions are also available.
