This beautiful set of four oak chairs is a creation of the talented Hans J. Wegner for Carl Hansen & Søn. The chairs boast a distinctive design with V-shaped gaps in the backrest for added comfort. The slightly slanted position of the chairs ensures a comfortable seating experience. The chairs are called sawbuck chairs or 'bukkestole' in Danish, and are similar to folding chairs but fixed in an open position. The A-shaped frame sets these chairs apart, and the name 'sawbuck' comes from the shape of sawbucks in Wegner's workshop. Wegner, a renowned furniture designer, was passionate about creating expressive and exciting designs with a profound understanding of materials, construction techniques, and functionality. He was not bound by strict functionalist principles like his teacher Kaare Klint, and his designs reflected a perfect blend of inventiveness and sculptural sense. Wegner relentlessly pursued perfection in his quest for the ideal chair, leaving behind over 3500 drawings and close to 500 designs that went into production. His designs adorn some of the world's most iconic buildings, including the UN Building and Seagram Building in New York, UNESCO's headquarters, and the NATO headquarters in Paris.
