We have meticulously restored and refinished these chairs, including new cane seats, to exceptional vintage condition. They exude a brand-new 1950s appearance and we immensely appreciate their timeless and iconic shape, along with their unmatched joinery. The teak-crafted Round Chair by Danish designer Hans Wegner, born in 1949, manifests the aesthetic hallmarks of Danish modernism, flaunting an elegant and clean appearance along with organic curves. The chair offers unmatched comfort and sophistication. The chair's single-piece teak seat and backrest have been expertly carved and shaped for maximum comfort and support. Meanwhile, the slightly sloped crescent-shaped arms provide a natural seating position, while the curved backrest cradles the user's back. Hans Wegner was a pioneer of ergonomics, and the Round Chair, also known as "The Chair," has earned the reputation as the most beautiful chair in the world. The chair's teak arms are shaped from a single piece, complete with beautiful mortise-and-tension joints and a continuous semicircle of wood. Hans Wegner designed every chair to fascinate from all angles, with no backside, according to his philosophy. Wegner's influence is evident in every one of the 500 chairs he designed, of which 100 went into production, though none of them earned the honor of "The Chair" equivalent to the 1949 Round Chair. We have nine cane chairs and seven leather seats of these iconic chairs available. All chairs bear their original burn marks, indicating their original production at Johannes Hansen's facility in Denmark. These famous chairs were present at John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon's first televised Presidential debate in 1960. Kennedy selected the chair because of its ability to convey both a majestic and relaxed posture.
