This armless sofa, the "JH 555", was designed by Hans J. Wegner for Johannes Hansen in the 1950s and is considered a rare and early example of his work. It has been restored in soft black leather and is made of oak. These sofas were produced in limited quantities in Hansen's workshop and are highly sought after. Wegner's JH555 sofa was a pioneering design that aimed to replace bulky, upholstered sofas. It was one of several breakthroughs that Wegner achieved at the 1949 Cabinetmakers Guild Exhibition, which included the round Chair JH501 and the Folding Chair JH512. This iconic design would be an excellent addition to any interior with a Mid Century, Danish Modern, European, Post Modern or Contemporary style. It can be used as a bench, settee or armless sofa. Other renowned designers such as Finn Juhl, Borge Mogensen, and Arne Vodder have created similar designs.
