The FH 1935 bench, crafted from walnut and beech, is a unique and exceptional piece designed by Hans J. Wegner for Fritz Hansen. Wegner, recognizing the potential of molded plywood, created a multitude of variations of his famed 'Shell Chair', resulting in this exceptional bench with an inviting sofa-like appeal. This specific model, designed in 1948, was produced in limited quantities by Fritz Hansen for only two years - making it a rare and valuable collector's item. Hans Wegner, known as one of the most productive furniture designers in the world, was a master of his craft, with extensive knowledge of materials, construction techniques, and purpose. His designs were expressive, inventive, and sculptural, yet always adhering to the strict rules of functionalism. Even with his relentless pursuit for perfection, Wegner was aware of the limitations of designing the 'perfect' chair, and thus, he produced an astounding 500 of his designs. His outstanding work featured prominently in several prestigious buildings worldwide, including the United Nations, UNESCO, and NATO headquarters, among others.
