The PP550 'Peacock' chair, created by designer Hans Wegner in 1947 for Johannes Hansen, is a modern take on the traditional American Windsor chair. With a focus on natural materials and designing around the human body, the chair's striking form features flattened spindles and a magnificent arc reminiscent of a peacock's feathers, earning it the nickname 'Peacock'. Despite originally intending to use jute for the chair's rush seat, World War II shortages led Wegner to use paper cord instead. Measuring 41 3/4 in. H x 27 1/2 in. W x 20 1/2 in. D, with a seat height of 14 in. and a top head rest height of 31 3/4 in., the chair is in excellent condition with minor wear and a few wood splits and nicks. Multiple literature references and museum collections attest to the chair's cultural significance. Multiple chairs are available; please contact us for information on purchasing a pair or set of four.
