Hans Wegner's 1947 design for the PP550 'Peacock' chair, created for Johannes Hansen, is a mid-century modern take on the American Windsor chair. The chair aims to showcase its construction while still having a decorative impact. Wegner follows a modernist approach by using natural materials, with one exception: the 'rush' seat is made of paper cord instead of jute, due to World War II shortages. The chair's flattened spindles and magnificent arc inspired fellow designer Finn Juhl to give it the name 'Peacock', reminiscent of the bird's plumage. The chair's dimensions are as follows: 41 3/4 in. H x 27 1/2 in. W x 20 1/2 in. D. The seat measures 22 1/2 in. x 19 3/4 in. x 12 in. at the back, with a floor to top of the seat height of 14 in. The top of the seat to the armrest measures 10 1/8 in., while the seat to top headrest is 31 3/4 in. Although the chair is in excellent condition, minor wear is present throughout. There is a gap between the arm and chair back measuring approximately 1/4 inch, and both arms also have light water staining. Additionally, the wood has split in one seat joint measuring 3/8 and 5/8 inches on either side. Four deeper scratches are present on the back, and an area of staining on the bottom chair rung measures 2 3/4 inches long. The chair back's fifth spindle from the right has a wood chip measuring 1 inch long, and the chair back's sixth spindle from the left is loose.
