Created by Hans Wegner in 1958, this pair of lounge chairs, named after Copenhagen's Kastrup Airport, feature an elegant and strong design with black leather upholstery, a metal base, and metal accents on the sides. The chairs showcase Wegner's exceptional ability to create comfortable and sturdy upholstered furniture without relying on bulky designs. They even bear the metal label of the "Danish Furniture Control," indicating that they are an early version of the model. Hans Wegner was one of the most prolific furniture designers in the world, having honed his craft under Danish master cabinetmaker H.F. Stahlberg and studied at the School of Arts and Crafts in Copenhagen. Wegner's furniture showcased his thorough understanding of materials and construction techniques, while also incorporating expressive and innovative designs. Despite his functionalist roots, Wegner was a creative idealist determined to create the ultimate chair, leaving behind over 3500 drawings and around 500 of his designs in production. His furniture can be found in iconic buildings worldwide, including the UN Building and Seagram Building in New York, UNESCO's headquarters, and NATO's headquarters in Paris.
