The J-16 rocking chair, designed by Hans Wegner, boasts a modernized take on the classic Windsor shape with elongated turned spindles, a braided papercord seat, and matte black lacquered finish. It bears the original maker's mark underneath and was created for FDB Mobler in Denmark circa 1960. Crafted from wood, papercord, and paint, this piece is in good condition with expected signs of aging and use, but the papercord remains intact. Its dimensions are H 42 in. W 25 in. D 32 in., with a seat height of 16 in. Wegner's early fascination with rocking chairs and their design led to the creation of the J16, one of his earliest chairs to enter production. FDB Mobler, the manufacturers of this chair, aimed for simplicity and versatility in their pieces, making them accessible to everyday life. Since the 1940s, FDB Mobler has produced some of the most iconic furniture in history, and the J16 remains one of their most successful pieces.
