The JH 505 model, designed in 1952, is an extremely rare and exquisite chair. Each chair bears a metal tag for authenticity. Handcrafted by only a few skilled craftsmen at Johannes Hansen, these chairs are made of teak, rosewood, and cane, and feature inlays of Brazilian rosewood which lock the back joint. The JH 505 is a development of The Round Chair, but more compact with shorter elbow rests, making it easier to push in closer to a table and to get up from the chair. Wegner designed this chair as a follow-up to his breakthrough with The Round Chair, and it serves a different purpose. Wegner's aim was to pay homage to the natural beauty of solid wood carved into organic shapes, hence reducing the number of pieces of solid wood to two and making the joint a decorative feature of the design. The use of contrasting Brazilian rosewood adds to the chair's unique beauty.
