He attended the School of Arts and Crafts in Copenhagen from 1936 to 1938, where he met architects Arne Jacobsen and Erik Moller and began collaborating with Johannes Hansen, a cabinetmaker. He established his own studio in 1943 and went on to create a reputation as one of Denmark's most innovative and renowned furniture designers. Wegner's designs incorporated expertise in materials and construction techniques, along with functional considerations. His creations were organic, tactile, and imaginative, with sculptural appeal and inventiveness but without compromising functionality. His idealism drove his constant pursuit of the perfect chair, although he knew it was unattainable. He left behind over 3500 drawings and 500 designs that went into production. His stunning furniture graces several prestigious buildings worldwide, such as the UN, UNESCO, and NATO headquarters, as well as the Seagram Building in New York.
