In 1950, Hans J. Wegner designed the CH23 dining chair for Carl Hansen & Søn, marking the beginning of his impressive career in modern furniture design. Wegner's early works were renowned for their unique qualities, which included a mix of both elegance and ergonomic forms. Despite its seemingly simple appearance, the CH23 chair is a masterpiece with many intricate details, including the stylish cruciform cover caps in its backrest, a hand-woven seat, and rear legs that arch backwards for optimal stability. In 2017, Carl Hansen & Søn reintroduced the CH23, remaining faithful to Wegner's original working drawing, thus adding to their collection of early masterpieces. The CH23 chair is made of wood and papercord, with an oak soap frame finish and black papercord seat finish. Its dimensions are 19.8in D x 19.8in W x 30.9in H, but it is also available in an array of other frame and seat finish options.
