The CH78 lounge chair, affectionately referred to as the Mama Bear Chair, was initially launched in 1954 as an extension of the CH71 Mini Bear Chair (1952) by designer Hans J. Wegner. With its welcoming curves and warm embrace, this lounge chair strikes the perfect balance between soft, rounded curves, dynamic geometries, and exquisite details like the wooden claws on its armrests. Although lightweight, it offers excellent support and ergonomic comfort for the neck, back, and body, promoting relaxation and rest. According to Knud Erik Hansen, the CEO of Carl Hansen & Son, the CH78 lounge chair's lightness and distinctive expression suit contemporary decor and the company's distinguished collection. Wegner was part of the groundbreaking generation that introduced Danish Modern design and believed in creating simple and functional furniture pieces that embody their inner soul. Born in southern Denmark in 1914, he started his apprenticeship with a master cabinetmaker at the age of 14 and later made a name for himself as a furniture designer. The CH78 lounge chair is crafted using a combination of high-quality materials like solid wood, foam, and beech and comes in different upholstery and wood finish options.
