Hans Wegner's 1947 design for the PP550 'Peacock' chair, made for Johannes Hansen, is a modernist take on a traditional American Windsor chair. The chair's construction is stripped down to its essential elements while still retaining a decorative impact. Wegner's approach to designing for the human body and using natural materials is evident throughout, with the exception of the 'rush' seat made from paper cord due to shortages caused by World War II. Fellow designer Finn Juhl gave the chair its nickname based on its flattened spindles and magnificent arc resembling a peacock's plumage. This chair measures 41 3/4 in. H x 27 1/2 in. W x 20 1/2 in. D, with the seat measuring 22 1/2 in. x 19 3/4 in. x 12 in. at the back. The chair is in excellent condition, with minor wear and a shallow chip on the top of the chair back measuring 1/2 inch long. We have four Peacock chairs available.
