The oaken "Grand Repos" sofa is undoubtedly iconic, both in its superior quality and exceptional design. This particular model serves as an embodiment of why Votre Maison, the French duo's company, has significantly influenced the history of French design. Guillerme and Chambron are renowned for their exquisite solid oak furniture, and the "Grand Repos" range is no exception, featuring spindle backrests that set it apart. Crafted from a sturdy wooden frame, the backrest boasts eleven symmetrically arranged wooden spindles that support it. The slightly tilted backrest and generously cushioned seat and back offer optimal comfort, while the two circular cushions add a touch of elegance without detracting from the sofa's overall appeal. The elaborate overarching spindles create an almost regal feel, with the arms fashioned to follow the back's contours, gently arcing outward. The name "Grand Repos" is French for "great rest," which perfectly describes this seat's thoughtful and sophisticated design, sure to offer the utmost relaxation. The delicate and light bouclé upholstery of the seat and round back cushions beautifully complements the light oak frame. The back cushions are anchored in place with loops that encircle the back spindles, ensuring that they remain in position. The bottom consists of two cushions that extend to the front legs, framed by graceful, curved wooden armrests. The artistry applied to the woodworking is a testament to the sofa's overall quality, with the frame exquisitely crafted and exquisite attention paid to detail by Robert Guillerme and Jacques Chambron. This "Grand Repos" sofa is in very good vintage condition, with normal wear and tear from age and use. Recently reupholstered in premium bouclé fabric, it will make an outstanding addition to any living space. With dimensions of 60.6 in W x 37 in D x 35.8 in H and a seat height of 15.3 in (154 cm W x 94 cm D x 91 cm H with a seat height of 39 cm), it offers ample space for optimal relaxation. Robert Guillerme, a graduate of the École Boulle in 1934, specialized in architecture and furniture design. After World War II, he settled in Lille, France, where he designed furniture for the renowned Rogier workshops, in addition to decorating homes. In 1948, he was joined by decorator and long-time friend Jacques Chambron, and together they met master cabinetmaker Émile Dariosecq, owner of a woodworking shop. This meeting led to the birth of Votre Maison. The duo's distinct creativity, quality, and originality took the world by storm, putting Votre Maison on the map of French design history. Guillerme drew the designs for the furniture while Chambron played the role of adviser and salesman, welcoming and guiding clients. Dariosecq's workshop took care of the manufacturing, and together, they created revolutionary furniture concepts. The reputation of their chairs and sofas has been established through their well-crafted chair backs, polished wood, and thick cushions. Votre Maison continued to produce furniture until the 20th century, with Hervé Chambron, Jacques's son, taking over in 1983 after graduating from the École Boulle.
