These are a remarkable pair of chairs that have been elegantly crafted by renowned Italian designer Gio Ponti. The chairs have been expertly restored and adorned with lustrous silk velvet, while the conical wooden legs feature an ebony finish. Dubbed the Model Bergere, these chairs were originally produced by Cassina for the Hotel 'Parco dei Principi' in Rome during the 1950s. They have been documented in the literature titled 'Il Design Italiano Degli Anni '50' by Branzi on page 107. Gio Ponti was a visionary architect, furniture and industrial designer, and editor, who played a pivotal role in shaping the landscape of 20th century Italian Modernism. The esteemed designer graduated from the Milan Polytechnic in 1921 and went on to become the Artistic Director of the Richard-Ginori porcelain manufactory in 1923. As a member of the executive committee of the Fifth Milan Triennale, Ponti emphasized the work of young Milanese avant-garde architects. Additionally, he founded the influential magazine Domus in 1928, where he served as the editor until 1946.
