The University of Mantova can boast of owning a remarkable walnut writing desk designed by the highly influential and revered Italian architect and designer, Giovanni "Gio" Ponti. Manufactured by Schirolli in Italy in 1950, this mid-century modern desk measures 160 cm x 83 cm x 68 H cm (63 in x 32.67 in x 26.77 H in). Salvatore Licitra Ponti from Gio Ponti Archives provided his expertise to authenticate this exquisite piece. Ponti's career spanned over six decades, during which he excelled in various fields including industrial and furniture design, art, and publishing. His architectural works both in Italy and internationally are considered significant contributions to modern Italian design. Ponti's furniture, decorative art, and industrial product designs were a blend of traditional artisanal techniques and innovative production methods, and remain an inspiration to aspiring designers today.
