The Ninfea folding lounge chair, also known as the Pieghevole Ninfea, boasts a beautiful wooden structure and a woven white fabric seat and back. Featuring brass hinges, this iconic design was created by Gio Ponti during the development of the Superleggera chair and has been manufactured by the historically significant Italian company Brevetti F.lli Reguitti since 1958. Originally available in three upholstery styles - woven wicker, leather, and fabric - the design has been documented by the Gio Ponti archive in Milan and was published in the Italian publication "Novita" in May 1958, credited to Gio Ponti as the designer. Gio Ponti was a modernist icon renowned for his contributions to architecture and design across a wide range of disciplines, including fine furniture and ceramics, education, residential and office buildings. Born in Milan in 1891, he studied architecture at the Politecnico di Milano and went on to become the artistic director of the Richard-Ginori porcelain factory. In addition to starting the magazine Domus in 1928, he was also an influential curator of the Milan Triennale. Among his most famous architectural works are the Institute of Mathematics of the University of Rome, the Pirelli Tower, and the Denver Art Museum. Throughout his life, Ponti's interdisciplinary approach to design combined elements of art, craft, and architecture. His fascination with a wide range of styles is evident from his designs for various manufacturers, including Cassina and Fontana Arte. He continued to work well into his eighties, producing countless pieces of furniture, ceramics, and other objects before his death in Milan in 1979.
