Monfortino is produced from Cascina Francia’s Nebbiolo vineyards and is made only in exceptionally good years. Older vintages may bear the mention 'Riserva Speciale'. Critic tasting note: "The color alone is enough to bring tears to your eyes. It is a clear red and anyone who expects to see signs that its hues have been compromised will be shocked in a positive way. The aromas have a fragrance and allure difficult to match. They are intense, with diverse balsamic varieties, with the grace of a cat for the way they silently stalk through the nose. The citrus component is still present together with scents of coffee and spice. The way it changes in the glass inspires feelings that are difficult to explain. It never stops no matter how long it remains in the glass. What is really surprising is not so much how intense the aromas are but how amplified they get. The attack of the mouthfeel is magnificent, still incredibly fresh, with sensations of silk that stimulate endlessly. The flavor is no longer austere or rigid but bullying with its sensual voluptuousness. The texture is superfine, caressing and without any tartness. It is difficult to conceive of anything similar in the world of wine.
