This exquisite collection of four "Pretzel" armchairs is a rare find, crafted from laminated wood and produced by ICF De Padova in Italy between 1984 and 1986. Originally designed as model 5890 for Herman Miller in 1952 by George Nelson, the esteemed designer granted ICF the right to manufacture the chairs for the Italian market. Nelson admired the delicacy and strength of Gio Ponti's chair and sought to create a similarly lightweight yet robust design. Laminated wood was chosen as the material for the entire chair, resulting in uniquely twisted forms - thus named the "Pretzel-chair". Despite their limited production time, the armchairs remain in exceptional original condition, complete with their original cushions in two green and two checkered patterns, and the manufacturer's labels. The design of the chairs is documented in George Nelson: Architect, Writer, Designer, Teacher by Vegesack and Eisenbrand, and George Nelson: The Design of Modern Design by Abercrombie.
