His work strived for harmony with nature and preserving the environment, giving trees a second life as beautiful pieces of furniture. He was known for his exceptional craftsmanship and often incorporated unique joinery techniques in his work that became his signature. By combining traditional Japanese designs with American and International Modern styles, Nakashima became one of the top Art furniture designers of the 20th century.
