This is a stunning coffee table made by George Nakashima in the 1950s, crafted from English walnut with rosewood butterfly inserts. The table boasts a unique design with its single slab top and free edges that accentuate the beautiful grain of the wood. With only one rosewood butterfly in the design, it is an expressive example of Nakashima's style and skill. A similar Slab Coffee Table can be found in George Nakashima Full Circle by Derek E. Ostergard, which features a photo and description of the piece on pages 118 and 119. This particular table was purchased from Peter Roberts Antiques in New York City in 2003 and has been part of a private collection in Boston ever since.
