This circular glass-smoked table with an openwork metal base is a work from the 1970s by Italian designer Gastone Rinaldi (1920-2016), who was known for his metal furniture designs. After taking over his father's company RIMA with his brother in 1948, Rinaldi formed a creative partnership with Gio Ponti and designed several chairs, including the DU10, DU11, and DU9, which were showcased at the Milan Triennale. Rinaldi's designs were regularly featured in Domus magazine and he was recognized with awards such as the Compasso d'Oro for his DU30 chair. In 1974, Rinaldi established Thema after leaving RIMA, and continued to create innovative furniture pieces such as the Arianna armchair and the Daphné folding chair, both of which received accolades. Although Thema closed in 1989, Rinaldi's contributions to furniture design continue to be celebrated.
