Gastone Rinaldi, an acclaimed Italian designer, crafted an exceptional dining table complete with a fume glass top. In 1948, he took over his father's company RIMA, which produced metal furniture. Rinaldi collaborated with Gio Ponti in 1950 to create DU10 and DU11 chairs for the hospital section of Milan's IXth Triennale, introducing the DU9 rocking chair. His innovative designs were published regularly in magazines such as Domus, and he won the Compasso d'Oro in 1954 for his DU30 chair. Rinaldi also collaborated with designers Carlo Mollino and Altamira to create chairs for various hospitals. Though complicated relations within RIMA prompted him to found his own company, Thema, in 1974, Rinaldi continued to be recognized for his genius. He received Compasso d'Oro mentions for the Arianna armchair in 1978 and the Daphné folding chair, his final masterpiece, in 1981. Thema closed its doors in 1989.
