This set of four early edition Iconic Barrel chairs, designed by the legendary architect Frank Lloyd Wright in 1937 and produced by Cassina Italy in the late 1980s; early 1990s, is in great vintage condition, as evidenced by the images provided. The chairs will be shipped overseas to the US, securely packaged in a custom-made wooden crate with insurance coverage included. Wright's timeless design, marked by exceptional complexity in construction, made the Barrel chair a sought-after classic. The chair's barrel-shaped form, made up of 37 parts that fit into each other with extreme precision, features a base and chair back made of three solid wood pieces uniquely bent at different angles. Each of these three parts is cut in two to counterbalance the tensions created during the steam-bending and drying processes, before being glued back-to-back and meticulously finished by Cassina's skilled carpenters. Wright's genius was nurtured from an early age by his mother, who envisioned that he would become the greatest architect of all time, and his father, who instilled in him a passion for music. Following a period of apprenticeship under Louis Sullivan in Chicago, Wright embarked on a revolutionary career in architecture, exploring new engineering and design possibilities using modern materials such as reinforced concrete, glass, steel, sheet metal, and the cantilever. Through his work, Wright elevated the space within buildings, imbued with a mystical sense of liberation and organic unity, to the realm of art. He continued to inspire generations of architects, artists, and innovators until his death, leaving behind a legacy of brilliant design, innovation, and creative genius.
