The set of six "Barrel" chairs by Frank Lloyd Wright for Cassina boasts an enduring design that exhibits exceptional construction complexity. Wright first conceived of the barrel-shaped armchair in 1904, and his 1937 creation showcases 37 expertly crafted parts that fit together with outstanding precision. The chair back and base are comprised of three pieces of solid wood, each bent at varying angles during the steam-bending and drying processes. To counterbalance the tensions that arise during this process, each piece is cut in two, glued back-to-back, and then carved with precision to ensure solid joints. Wright's vision prioritized the use of natural materials, emphasizing the importance of craftsmanship and utilizing technology to make design accessible to all. Our atelier took great care in restoring and upholstering each chair in plush burgundy velvet, resulting in a timeless piece that gracefully showcases slight signs of use and the patination of time.
