The Ford Consul was a mid-size car produced by Ford of Europe from 1951 to 1962. Originally introduced as a luxury model, the Consul was positioned between the basic Ford Popular and the more expensive Zephyr and Zodiac models. It was available with a variety of body styles, including saloon, estate, convertible, and coupé. The first generation Consul, produced from 1951 to 1956, featured a 1.5-liter engine and a three-speed manual transmission. It was hailed for its sleek design, comfortable ride, and advanced features such as independent suspension, hydraulic brakes, and a self-winding clock. The second generation Consul, introduced in 1956, was a more substantial car with a 1.7-liter engine and a more modern look. It was available as a saloon or estate, and offered even more luxury features such as an optional radio, heater, and two-tone paintwork. In 1961, the Consul name was replaced by the Zephyr 4 and Zephyr 6 models, which continued to carry the luxury mantle for Ford of Europe. Despite being discontinued, the Consul remains a beloved part of Ford's history and a favorite among collectors and enthusiasts.
