Designed by Florence Knoll in 1961 for Knoll, this Florence Knoll oval table desk is a rare edition featuring a silver lacquered top and solid black base in excellent condition. While Florence Knoll referred to her designs as "fill-in pieces," her 78-inch table, which can seat up to six, is anything but. Prior to Knoll's pioneering approach, executive offices in America were typically arranged with a diagonally-placed desk, a table set parallel behind it, and a few chairs scattered around the room. With a focus on communication, Florence redesigned this illogical layout by replacing the imposing desk with a more inviting table desk and moving storage to a matching low credenza behind it. The elegant 2480 Pedestal Table Desk, which exudes executive quality and embodies Mies van der Rohe's influence on Florence's design approach, features meticulously refined details to achieve simplicity and effortless beauty. Despite being originally intended for the office, the table has found its way into many dining rooms over the last 50 years.
