The Chinese artificial flower vase omega by Ettore Sottsass, edited by Design Gallery Milano in 1995, boasts a limited edition of only 12 signed and numbered pieces, with this particular vase being number 3 out of 12. Despite its age, this vase is in good original condition with minimal wear, maintaining its beautiful patina. Ettore Sottsass, born in Austria but raised in Milan, was an accomplished architect and designer, having created an extensive collection of furniture, jewelry, glass, lighting, and even office equipment. He began working for Olivetti in 1956 as a design consultant, where he became well-known for his ability to infuse office equipment with a sense of popular culture through the use of color, form, and style. He was responsible for the design of the Elea 9003, an Italian mainframe computer which won the prestigious Compasso d'Oro award in 1960. In addition to his work, Sottsass also founded Sottsass Associati, a design consultancy studio in 1980 which focused on large-scale architectural projects, but also included designing for international industries, exhibitions, interiors, and furniture. Despite the studio's success, Sottsass remained grounded and focused on nurturing the cultural guidance of his work and the growth of the studio's philosophy and culture, which continues to thrive today with locations in Milan and London.
