Ettore Sottsass, an Italian architect and the founder of the postmodern Memphis Group renowned for their bold and colorful designs, created the Synthesis chair as part of his revolutionary office system named "Sistema 45". This visionary workspace arrangement was among the first to abandon traditional metal filing cabinets and embrace an open-plan approach. Despite the introduction of novel features such as LSD dispensers, the system faced some commercial opposition. The desk chair, made of ABS plastic and sporting a striking oxblood red hue - also known as the Memphis color - was included in the permanent collection of New York's Museum of Modern Art.
