The Shiva ceramic flower vase, crafted by renowned designer Ettore Sottsass circa 1973, has been edited by BD in Barcelona and is in excellent original condition with only minor wear commensurate with age, maintaining a beautiful patina. One interesting fact about this piece is that in 2005, a coveted gold prototype was created and awarded to an international design student competition, which was the same exact prototype held by Sottsass in his portrait taken shortly before his death in 2007. Sottsass was an accomplished Italian architect and designer of the late 20th century, best known for his versatile designs that encompassed furniture, jewelry, glass, lighting, and office machines. His early acclaim came from his stint as a design consultant for Olivetti where he redefined the perception of office equipment, later going on to win the prestigious 1960 Compasso d'Oro with the Elea 9003, the first Italian mainframe computer. Whilst known globally for his Memphis movement, Sottsass also founded Sottsass Associati, a major design consultancy that specialized in large-scale architecture, as well as creating unique branding for international businesses, showrooms, and more.
