This stunning Shiva ceramic flower vase, designed by the late Ettore Sottsass in circa 1973 and edited by BD in Barcelona, is in good original condition with minor wear consistent with age and use, preserving a beautiful patina. A gold prototype of this exact model was made in 2005, two years before Sottsass passed away, and was awarded to an international competition for students of design. This is the very same prototype that Sottsass holds in his portrait. Ettore Sottsass was a celebrated Italian architect and designer of the late 20th century, known for his work in furniture, jewelry, glass, lighting and office machine design. Sottsass made a name for himself as a designer who brought office equipment into the realm of popular culture through color, form and styling. His renowned consultancy, Sottsass Associati, established in 1980, has designed for many large international industries and continues to sustain his work, philosophy and culture.
